As FREI’s original single ‘Who We Are’ on We Are Phonik climbs up the official Traxsource Progressive House chart, the elusive Danish producer follows up with four major reworkings set to drop Christmas Eve. On offer are remixes from label boss Dan McKie and UK producer Pringy, plus a further dub from Pringy and third act Known Unknown.
McKie, who counts support from the likes of Danny Howard, Anna Lunoe, Annie Mac, Steve Lawler, Roger Sanchez and more, turns in grooving slice of progressive house as he takes on remix duties. Opening up and expanding the compression on the original melody, he drives home the percussion, highlighting the vocal line and laying down warm, comfy rhythms to sink into. Turning in a remix and dub is rising Liverpool artist Pringy, who moves between instrumental and percussion structures on the dub while celebrating the vocal on his remix, underpinning it with sumptuous runs of melody from the original cut. Known Unknown finishes off the package with a dub that strips away the vocal, highlighting the instrumental and bass elements before swinging back in again with the vocal to give his version real rhythm and drive.
“I loved the original but it was quite commercial for my sets so I wanted to create a deeper underground feel with my remix. I still capture the beauty of the original but giving a dashing of Dan McKie flavour.”
